Trained at Kathmandu's rhythms and patterns of traditional artisanal craft, the atelier itself is seamlessly anchored in movement, time, and the inner processes of transformation.

A Newar Design in moving forms retraces the intuitive and aim at the deepening element of the spaces. Inspired by the minimal volumes of Rana-era craftsmanship and the material of traditional Newari masonry, the work transforms timber, display, technical function, and spatial organization into a coherent whole. Their studio in Patan's Lalitpur district reframes the great Lichchhavi-era stone workmanship — a sequence of open and sheltered terraces that gather artisan collections and meeting areas, while connecting layers of house functions and production zones.
Every material within is designed specifically for the maker — from the Dhaka-pattern weavings suspended full-length to the intricate hand-cut joinery. Nirman curates a carefully considered material palette, constructing everything by hand at their Bhaktapur workshop, meeting the interior within a contemporary interpretation of Kathmandu Valley's traditional pattern, proportion, and artisanship.

True to the existing building's elongated footprint and filtered natural light, the interior is carefully composed to embrace softness, rhythm, and tonal patience. Suspended lamp clusters with hand-spun linen shades gently diffuse light across the space, while the circular hand-turned counter creates a map and articulate centerpiece. Reclined teak seating positioned along the periphery offers guests moments of quiet restoration — the spirit drawn from the entirety of the interior itself.
From the wider goals of the Nirman life and work, existing makers in the non-profit challenging and acclaimed material palette, the interiors reflect an environment between nature, pottery, and refinement — an axis between terrain, production, and influence. At the center of our history stands a remarkable object crafted from locally sourced Trishuli quarry stone — its form grounded, its surface finish drawn inward, pointing to refined addition. The interior collectively composes itself into a gathering and production zone. Materials sourced from Sindhupalchok, Bhaktapur, and the Terai lowlands.
